Tattoo ….. the very word brings association with gangsters to Chinese people in Singapore during the 70s. In the early days only gangsters tattooed their bodies and they were notorious for fighting in streets and extorting money from the less fortunate. Time changes everything and tattooing is now a form of art. However, our minds still associate tattoo with gangsters and their life styles, always fighting and bullying the weak. Aaron Neville has tattoos all over his body and my first impression of him is no good …. a bad man. I cannot bring myself to accept him as someone to be gentle and God fearing until I bought his CD and heard him singing “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”! He sang with so much emotion and gentleness that I can hardly believe it! The way he sang this gospel song, I should say, is unique and beautiful. The more you listen to his singing, the more you will like it.. His style is so unconventional from the normal congregational singing. His voice has a kind of soothing, pleading and humble effect that make it very difficult for anyone trying to imitate. So, never judge a book by its cover until you have thoroughly read it. However, I have yet to know him better ……. is he a gentle and God fearing man?
